After last week's chat on May 2, @wbendle started a discussion in the Innochat LinkedIn group about spring and innovation. Of course, we had the famous Thunderbolts and Lightning chat about innovation and weather back in December, so this wasn't our first meteorological theme.

Why change what you do? Most of us have an answer to this question, although our answers are likely to vary considerably. However some people are likely to find little or no reason to change or innovate, they are known as “laggards”.

This innochat is on the subject of laggards and is the first of a series on the diffusion of innovations. The five chats in the series will focus on each of the commonly identified categories of adopters of innovations.

Adoption

Do you drive an electric car yet? Do you think that you will? If so, when?

If you are anything like me, you adopt new types of product at different stages in their lifecycle:

  • a few: as soon as they are available
  • some: after they have been around for some time
  • others: you never adopt at all.

Of course, this apply not only to purchasing products, but also to adopting new processes and a wide range of other behaviours.
