Jenny Neill will be guest moderating this week’s Innochat topic: TEDx Rainier. The framing post can be read in it's entirety here, and a brief snapshot below:

Some understanding can only be developed by crossing boundaries or shifting context. For example, imagine studying a foreign language. You come across a word that doesn’t have a direct translation. What process do you go through to figure out what it means? Studying in isolation, you may look up related words or concepts. But without a word-to-word translation available, you first must broaden the context before you can uncover the meaning.

A well-curated conference experience can speed up and amplify the process of gaining knowledge...TEDxRainier11 speakers condensed into 9-10 minutes many complex topics that in a traditional trade show or classroom format might take a dozen or more hours to explain...The experts and artists practiced eliminating jargon and tangents in order to communicate clearly and succinctly to listeners from outside their professional domains.

Jenny's theme for us innocats this week is exploring what we gain in translation across all manner of boundaries, not only language.

In the meantime here’s a bit of background on Jenny:

Jenny has been a fixture in the Northwest's writing scene since 1998 when she founded Seattle Writergrrls. She cut her editorial teeth nurturing research reports from first draft to publication in peer-reviewed journals through a series of non-profit jobs. Food, health, science, and travel topics have piqued her curiosity since her first corporate gig for the editorial team at MSN Search.

With over 12 years’ experience writing and editing materials for IT professionals, she focuses on information security and privacy, compliance, cloud computing, and online social marketing in her consulting practice. Confident delving deeply into complex topics, she applies her dry wit and a lifelong sense of wonder to make the technical accessible.

Jenny also has worked as a sommelier, an instructional designer, and an online content producer.

Looking forward to an interesting discussion! - Gwen
